Tips to Avoid Garage Door Scams

Don't Fall Victim to a Garage Door Scam

Recently, bogus garage door companies disguised themselves as local companies - often with names very similar to real ones. Most invest millions of dollars in Google Advertising to get noticed. People thinking they were contacting reputable garage door companies like Ramirez Overhead Door, were instead booking services with phony companies.

Sometimes, the clients wouldn’t realize what they’d done until it was too late, after they were charged way too much and with jobs left unfinished. That’s when they’d call us, unhappy, thinking they’d been dealing with us in the first place, and we’d have to tell them the bad news.

Protecting Yourself from Garage Door Scams

Luckily, Google has cracked down on these bogus garage door dealers, making it more difficult for them to purchase ads and requiring legitimate companies like us go through an extensive verification process with Google, proving we are the real deal.

But there are still phony garage door companies out there preying on innocent people. As a family-owned company in Vacaville, Napa, and the surrounding area, we truly care about our community and it troubles us to hear when someone has been taken advantage of.

Don’t fall victim to a garage door scam. Below are some tips to make sure you’re dealing with the real Ramirez Overhead Door.

Tips for Finding Reputable Garage Door Dealers

  • If searching online, double check the name of any online ads for Ramirez Overhead Door. If the ad is for a similar name like Ramirez & Son, or Ramirez Garage Door, Inc. don’t book services with them.

  • Ask where they are located. Local garage door companies have a brick and mortar store or at least an office. Bogus ones usually don’t.

  • Don’t agree to services from somebody in an unmarked van or truck. Most fake garage door companies drive vehicles that have magnet logos or none at all. Ramirez only uses fully stocked trucks with our name prominently displayed.

  • Check review sites and the Better Business Bureau. When you visit Yelp, Angie’s List, or the Better Business Bureau you’ll find lots of great reviews about Ramirez Overhead Door. If you search for companies with a similar name, you’ll find none or very bad reviews.

  • Never pay upfront. We usually bill after the services are completed and you are satisfied. Bogus companies will often ask for all the money upfront – and then not show up to do the job.

  • Get everything in writing. Jobs are required to have contracts over $500 in California. Along with never paying in advance, please ensure you have a contract for any work over this amount.

Look out for garage door scams! Ramirez Overhead Door is a family-owned company serving Vacaville, Napa, and the surrounding area. We truly care about our neighbors and it concerns us deeply when we hear that someone has fallen victim to a garage scam.

Always book services directly with Ramirez Overhead Door. Never pay money upfront, and don't hesitate to contact us immediately if you're worried you are dealing with an illegal company!
